Sony Smart Wireless Headset pro hits retail with $150 price in tow

Sony Smart Wireless Headset pro hits retail with $150 price in tow

Don't let the name fool you, Sony's Smart Wireless Headset pro won't clip on your ear. That's because it looks and functions more like a traditional MP3 player, using its powers of Bluetooth 2.0 to communicate with compatible Android devices. The two-tone peripheral comes with a headset, four sets of earbuds, USB cables and a 2GB microSD card pre-installed (expandable up to 32GB) to let you store music. If the feature set stopped right there, this accessory would be just another underwhelming PMP, but factor in its text-to-speech functionality and you get a PDA of sorts to keep you abreast of incoming emails, texts and social media updates. The device will also let users receive incoming voice calls and even dial-out using a recent call list. It's hitting Sony's online and retail shops now, so if you've got a spare $150 and a taste for extraneous peripherals -- by all means, take the plunge.

Rahall to join GOP in contempt vote

UPDATED:

The U.S. House of Representatives voted 255-67 to hold U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress.

---

Rep. Nick Rahall, D-W.Va., will join House Republicans in voting to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt.

Holder has refused to hand over documents related to Fast and Furious, a Department of Justice gun-running operation. Amid calls for Holder to step down, members of the U.S. House of Representatives are expected to vote today whether to hold the attorney general in contempt.

Rahall said members of the administration should be expected to uphold the Constitution and ensure government answers to the people.

"The?Congress has a Constitutional responsibility to ensure that our government ? whether controlled by a Republican or Democratic administration ? answers to the people," Rahall said in a statement.?"This matter should never have come to the point that the Congress would be considering the question of contempt on the part of a member of the Executive Branch. ?But, as with most messes, the sooner we clean it up, the better.? This has gone on way too long over two administrations.? We need to move on."

Fast and Furious was a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms mission conducted between 2009 and 2011. It was intended to stem the flow of firearms between the U.S. and Mexico by intercepting "straw purchasers" and gun traffickers in the United States.

On Dec. 14, 2010, U.S. Border Patrol agent Brian Terry was killed while on patrol 11 miles from the Mexican border. The AK-pattern rifles found after the killing were traced to Fast and Furious, though the bullet that killed Terry was traced to another weapon that was not linked to the operation.

Congress began an investigation into "gunwalking" operations such as Fast and Furious in January 2011. On May 3, ?2011, Holder testified to the House Judiciary Committee that he did not know who signed off on Fast and Furious, but that it was being investigated.

Holder appeared in his seventh Congressional period June 7 and continued to deny knowledge of Fast and Furious. By that time, the Justice Department had turned over more than 7,000 pages of documents. But the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee voted June 20 to recommend that Holder be held in contempt. At issue were 1,300 pages of documents that the Department of Justice had not been turned over to the committee.

The contempt vote is expected today.

Energy companies push for carbon market bailout

With a turnover of some ?90 billion in 2010, the EU's Emissions Trading System (ETS) is the world's largest carbon market. Around 80% of it is traded in futures markets and 20% in spot markets.

The ETS aims to encourage companies to invest in low-polluting technologies by allocating or selling them allowances to cover their annual emissions. The most efficient companies can then sell unused allowances or bank them.

After a series of VAT "carousel" and "phishing" frauds in 2009, the European Commission proposed tighter security measures. But a number of member states declined to implement them because they said they could not afford to.

One Commission official pointed out that tens of thousands of euros spent on security could prevent millions of euros in losses.

Cover Charge: New Spray-On Battery Could Convert Any Object into an Electricity Storage Device

News | Technology

The lithium ion battery is applied in layers, each of which is an aerosol paint, leading to possible solar-energy applications

Perhaps someday you'll need to go to the store because you ran out of cathode paint. A team of researchers has just announced a new paint-on battery design. The technique could change the way batteries are produced and eliminate restrictions on the surfaces used for energy storage.

The paint-on battery, like all lithium ion batteries, consists of five layers: a positive current collector, a cathode that attracts positively charged ions, an ion-conducting separator, an anode to attract negative ions, and a negative current collector. For each layer, the challenge was to find a way to mix the electrically conductive material with various polymers to create a paint that could be sprayed onto surfaces.

Neelam Singh, a member of the team of materials scientists and chemists from Rice University in Houston and Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium and lead author of the paper, says, "It was really exciting to find out. Can we really paint a battery on various surfaces and convert any object into a storage device?"

Singh says her team's work is filling a need in the socially critical field of energy storage for new battery designs. "We find that the focus of research is now shifting towards integration of batteries," she says. That is, people are trying to design batteries that can be built into a variety of different objects. Several teams are working to make thin and flexible batteries as well as batteries that can be incorporated into textiles. Solar energy is one of the applications that researchers are particularly interested in. Solar panels can require large surface areas, and the Rice team's design is an efficient way to collect and store energy in this realm.

To test their design, they applied the battery paints onto ceramic bathroom tiles, glass, a flexible transparency film, stainless steel and the side of a beer stein. In each case, the battery worked. In one experiment, they hooked a solar cell to one of the batteries and powered an LED display.

Singh said the biggest challenge was to make a battery that was both stable and powerful: "It was not very easy to get all the layers on top of each other without interfering with their capacity or compromising the performance of the battery." There were safety concerns as well. Many lithium ion batteries use aluminum as a positive current collector, but aluminum microparticles can be lung irritants, so using them in aerosol paint would be hazardous. Instead, the researchers relied on carbon nanotubes.

Lithium cobalt oxide was used as the cathode, commercially available gel electrolytes as the separator, lithium titanium oxide as the anode, and copper as the negative current collector. The approach is detailed in the June 28 issue of Scientific Reports. (Scientific American is part of Nature Publishing Group.)

Singh thinks that the Rice team's battery is a game-changer because it is energy efficient for its volume and can be applied to objects of many different compositions and shapes.

Vilas Pol, a materials scientist at Argonne National Laboratory who was not affiliated with the study, agrees that the new design is exciting, describing it as "an exceptional and notable concept in the arena of battery design and integration."

But for now paint-on batteries are not quite ready to hit the shelves at your local hardware store. For one, the electrolyte separator layer is not yet oxygen stable. It would explode if it came into contact with air, so special conditions are necessary when creating the battery.

Singh says the team currently is working to make all the materials less reactive to air and moisture and more environmentally friendly. She adds that other groups are working on developing paint-on solar cells. Then, she envisions "paintable solar cells on top of paintable solar batteries." Houses could become solar-energy capture-and-storage devices.

Winners and losers in high court health law ruling

(AP) ? By a single vote, President Barack Obama's health care overhaul survived a painstaking Supreme Court review that consumed thousands of pages in legal filings and an extraordinary six hours-plus of oral argument time back in March.

In the end, the court upheld the law, with a minor change, and dashed Republican hopes of bringing down what conservatives deride as "Obamacare" on constitutional grounds. The outcome surprised many who thought tough questions from the conservative justices during the arguments foreshadowed the demise of the far-reaching legislation.

The decision leaves a trail of winners and losers, from Main Street, USA, to the very steps of the Supreme Court. For some, it's a mixed bag. Here's a look:

WINNERS

Casey Quinlan, a 59-year-old breast cancer survivor who lives near Richmond, Va., and millions of other uninsured people. Starting in October 2013, the uninsured will be able to sign up for taxpayer subsidized coverage either through private insurance plans or the Medicaid health care program. Coverage commences on Jan. 1, 2014. The law eventually is expected to provide health insurance to about 30 million of the estimated 50 million uninsured Americans. Insurers will not be able to turn away people with a history or medical problems, or charge them more. "What's at stake is whether or not the insurance market will be encouraged to recognize our presence and create products that are affordable for people with pre-existing conditions," Quinlan said.

Hospitals. Their stock zoomed Thursday after the Supreme Court ruling guaranteed them millions more paying customers. Some analysts expect the law to reduce uncompensated care losses borne by hospitals by about half. Currently about one-fourth of the care provided by hospitals is never paid for, either because debts can't be collected or the patient is uninsured. Stocks of big laboratories also rose. But insurance companies had a see-saw day, down sharply at first but recovering some lost ground. They'll get millions of new customers also, but they face new federal regulation and taxes they fear will drive up costs.

Family practice doctors. The law provides a pay boost for those treating Medicare patients, and takes other steps that could make general practitioners the new gatekeepers of a more efficient health care system.

Democrats. President Barack Obama and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi devoted a vast amount of his first term to passing a health care law that has divided the nation. Democrats lost the House in the 2010 midterm elections partly on public displeasure with Medicare cuts embedded in the health care overhaul. By winning at the court, Obama and his party preserve historic legislation that liberals have been pining for over more than 50 years.

Solicitor General Donald Verrilli Jr. Obama's top Supreme Court lawyer was maligned for his performance in both the health care and Arizona immigration cases. His argument in defense of the insurance requirement got off to a bad start when Verrilli appeared to choke on his words and had to take a drink of water. Turns out, he largely prevailed in both cases, in which he also was in charge of producing the administration's written legal briefs. That's perhaps just the latest indication one shouldn't hang too much on oral arguments.

Chief Justice John Roberts ? The darling of conservatives, Roberts finds himself in the unusual position of being praised by the left and criticized by the right following the health care ruling, and to a lesser extent, the Arizona immigration case in which he also sided with the court's liberals. On one level, these demonstrations of a willingness to break with conservatives could burnish Roberts' reputation as the neutral umpire he told his confirmation hearings he sought to be. On the other hand, the conservative Roberts may be very much in evidence when the court takes up affirmative action in the fall.

LOSERS

The National Federation of Independent Business. The powerhouse small business lobbying group played a pivotal role in derailing former President Bill Clinton's health care bill and was lead plaintiff in the case against Obama's overhaul. NFIB President Dan Danner said Thursday the group will continue to push for repeal, but odds of completely overturning the law seem slimmer now. The law imposes fines on employers that do not offer coverage, but companies with fewer than 50 workers are exempt, and that means most small businesses will not have to worry about the mandate. Moreover, most companies with 50 or more employees already provide coverage. Nonetheless, business groups generally see the health care law as an encroachment.

Republicans. From presidential candidate Mitt Romney, to congressional leaders like House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., it will get harder for Republicans to argue that the law should be wiped from the books. However, Republicans could regain the upper hand by targeting unpopular provisions for repeal, like tax increases on industry, cost controls and cuts to service providers.

States that didn't prepare. About half the states now find themselves in the position of the little piggy that built his house out of straw. Many Republican-led states held back on carrying out the law's plan to set up new insurance markets, confident the Supreme Court would toss out the whole thing. They're now in the position of watching Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius' federal bureaucrats come in and run the markets for them. Sebelius says she wants to play nice and will partner with any interested states. But you can bet it will be on her terms.

Justice Antonin Scalia. He sat glumly and silently as other justices read their takes on the health care law. Scalia was more vocal than any justice in his distaste for the law when the court heard arguments in March.

RICHMOND, Ind. ? A developer is planning to build apartments in an eastern Indiana city targeted at students attending the neighboring campuses of an Indiana University regional branch and Ivy Tech Community College.

Kyle Bach, president and CEO of South Bend-based Mecca Companies, told the Richmond planning commission Thursday night that the company expected to spend $10 million on constructing three three-story buildings comprising 126 apartments, the Palladium-Item reported (http://pinews.co/ME6fTg ).

"We think this project will be great for the universities and great for the community," Bach said. "Not only will it increase the tax base but it will also offer important housing options for IU East and Ivy Tech."

The commission voted 8-0 to endorse a zoning change to allow the apartments near the campuses on the city's north side. The City Council still must consider final approval.

Plan commission members said they believed the project could spark more commercial development in the area and help attract students, particularly to the 3,700-student IU East campus.

"I think it will bring more life to the area and agree that that might be very good to locate it there," commission member Benny Young said.

Lynn Coyne, assistant vice president for real estate at Indiana University, also spoke in favor of the project.

"We view it as a quality housing opportunity for students and we think it would be a good fit for the community," Coyne said.

NHL, players' union open labor negotiations

NEW YORK ? The NHL and the players? union opened negotiations on a new labor deal Monday by meeting for about 2 1-2 hours.

Commissioner Gary Bettman and Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly met with NHLPA Executive Director Donald Fehr, union special counsel Steve Fehr and several player reps at the league?s Manhattan offices.

"Members of our League Office staff and several of our owners met today with the NHLPA and various members of the players? negotiating committee at the League Office in New York," Daly said in a statement released after the meetings. "The meeting was very cordial and we hope it was constructive.

"Before breaking, the parties discussed follow-up steps and confirmed plans for future meetings. We have nothing further to report at this time."

Washington Capitals owner Ted Leonsis declined to comment as he left the building and hopped into a waiting car.

"Following today?s meeting, we will review the NHL?s initial presentation with the Players? committee before reconvening for further talks later next week." Donald Fehr said.

Among the players in attendance were Scott Hartnell of the Flyers, Rick DiPietro of the Islanders and George Parros of the Anaheim Ducks, Chris Campoli of the Canadiens, Dan Winnik of the Sharks, Brandon Dubinsky of the Rangers, Brad Boyes of the Sabres, Ron Hainsey of the Jets.

This was the first formal talks between the two sides. They come after the NHLPA?s executive board held a three-day meeting in Chicago earlier this week.

The collective bargaining agreement expires Sept. 15. There is fear the league could be heading toward another lockout.

The owners locked out the players in 2004 and it cost the NHL an entire season. The agreement that came out of that deal put in place a salary cap for teams for the first time.

Fehr, the former head of the baseball players? union who was hired by the NHLPA after the last labor deal was cut, said Wednesday at a news conference in Chicago that the players would be willing to start the season without a deal if negotiations were ongoing.

Top 6 Reasons Citizenship is A Better Value Than a Green Card

Inevitably, at some point the permanent resident cards (?green cards) of long-time U.S. Legal Permanent Residents (LPRs) will expire. LPRs are required to maintain a valid permanent resident card, so green card card holders must either continue to renew their LPR status and thus the green card, or apply to ?upgrade? their status to U.S. citizen through an application for naturalization.

Opinion: unless there is a strong risk of denial or a risk of loss of green card status or deportation, applying for citizenship via naturalization is always a better option than renewing the green card. Why? Because?from a financial perspective, naturalization offers more benefits and provides a ?better value/better bang for the buck than simply renewing the green card and remaining a U.S. Legal Permanent Resident. ?

Here are six reasons why:

1. Naturalization is less expensive over time because there is no need for?renewal.?The current fee charged by the government to renew a permanent resident card (green card) is $450. Now compare that to the current $680 application fee to become a naturalized U.S. citizen. At first glance it will seem that naturalization is more expensive than renewing the green card. But let?s examine this further. Assuming the naturalization application is approved, this becomes a one-time of $680 fee versus a minimum of $450 you would have to pay every 10 years to renew your green card. And since immigration filing fees have increased dramatically in recent years, you can expect the cost to renew the green card to increase over time, almost certainly within the 10 year period before a new green card expires. A person may end up paying hefty green card renewal fees 2, 3, 4 or more times over a lifetime. Yikes!

2. ??Only Naturalization can protect you from removal (deportation).?Citizenship is the ONLY protection from deportation (removal) from the U.S. The list of criminal offenses ? many of them misdemeanors ?and often involving no jail time ? that can trigger removal is continually being expanded by Congress and judicial interpretation. A Legal Permanent Resident (green card holder) will always be subject to the possibility of removal from the U.S. or denied entry upon return to the U.S. for an infraction. As a U.S. citizen, however, the worst punishment one can face is imprisonment (or the death penalty depending on the state), but never deportation.

3. ?Naturalization offers increased access to jobs and scholarships. Eligibility for federal jobs, especially those requiring a security clearance, are restricted to U.S. citizens; certain state law enforcement and other jobs are limited to U.S. citizens as well. Many private higher education scholarships and grants are also reserved for U.S. citizens only.

4.?Your naturalization allows you to sponsor more family members for green cards, and your minor children may automatically become U.S. citizens. ?A naturalized?U.S. citizen can sponsor more categories of family members for green cards/immigrant visas than a Legal Permanent Resident (green card holder) can, and the wait times are generally much shorter. A LPR can sponsor a spouse and unmarried children (minors and adults) for green cards. In contrast, a U.S. citizen age 21 or older can sponsor a spouse, minor and adult unmarried children, parents, brothers and sisters (and their children), and adult married sons and daughters (and their children). Little Known Bonus: if a parent becomes a naturalized U.S. citizen before the 18th birthday of his or her child who is present in the U.S. in LPR status and in the parent?s legal and physical custody, that child automatically becomes a U.S. citizen as a matter of law.

5. With naturalization, international travel may be easier and you can stay outside the U.S. as long as you want. A?U.S. passport, which you can receive once you become a naturalized citizen, can make international travel easier and eliminate the need for tourist visas to visit many countries. Also, U.S. citizens can remain outside the country for as long as they want and without restriction from the U.S. In comparison, U.S. Legal Permanent Residents must always prove that they continue to be ?admissible? to the U.S. when returning from trips abroad and unfortunately can be denied entry even though they have a green card. Furthermore, LPRs always face the risk of losing their status if it has been determining they abandoned their permanent residency after living/working abroad or staying outside the U.S. for too long.

6. Naturalized?citizens can effect real change through enhanced civic participation.?Only U.S. citizens can vote in U.S. federal, state, and local elections, and only U.S. citizens can hold elected office. This is becoming an increasingly important and powerful benefit of naturalization, as state officials, Congress, and the President all influence and help shape future immigration legislation and current enforcement priorities, as well as enact many other laws that affect your finances and quality of life.

WARNING: NOT EVERYONE SHOULD APPLY FOR NATURALIZATION

These are all powerful reasons for every Legal Permanent Resident to at least strongly consider applying for naturalization. However, not everyone should apply, since the applicant must meet certain U.S. residence and good moral character requirements, and in most circumstances, must demonstrate a minimum proficiency in English and pass a civics Test. Most importantly, when applying for naturalization, you must submit to an FBI fingerprint check and?your entire immigration and criminal history is re-opened for review.?The risk of the immigration consequences of prior crimes can be different for Legal Permanent Residents versus naturalization applicants, and unfortunately each year many people apply for naturalization hoping for citizenship yet end up in removal (deportation) proceedings. Also, any prior misrepresentation or fraud in connection with an application for a visa, green card, or other immigration benefit will increase your risk of denial and/or deportation. Tip: ?if you ?have a prior criminal or immigration violation, request your FBI fingerprint record in advance and review the results with an experienced immigration attorney who will discuss the risks of applying for naturalization. See related article Immigration Tip: Check Your FBI Fingerprint Record.

CONCLUSION: PROCEED WITH CAUTION

As described above, the benefits of being a naturalized U.S. citizen far outweigh the benefits of remaining a Legal Permanent Resident. Before applying for naturalization, however, you should consult with an experienced immigration attorney to confirm your eligibility for naturalization, and to identify any risks of applying.

Government-backed movie streaming service coming to China in Q4, bringing Paramount titles along

Governmentback ovie streaming partnership coming to China in Q4, brining Paramount movies with itGovernment-helmed China Movie Channel's site M1905 announced this week that it's joining forces with Jiaflix -- a consortium comprised of Hollywood-types like former Columbia exec Sid Ganis -- to launch a movie streaming service in China. The still unnamed offering is set to stream both Chinese and international films, including a deal struck with Paramount that will bring the studio's back catalog and future releases to the service. The fruits of the partnership are set to launch in the fourth quarter of this year, bringing streaming to a number of platforms, including smartphone and tablets. Jiaflix and China Movie Channel added that they'll have a plan in place to combat potential piracy through the service, but have yet to spell out what such a plan of action would entail.

(AP) ? Government troops rained tank and artillery shells down on a rebellious suburb of the Syrian capital of Damascus Friday, killing at least 43 people over two days, opposition groups and activists said.

The barrage is part of a fierce government offensive aimed at regaining control of parts of Damascus suburbs where rebels operate, particularly Douma, a sprawling suburb that has been a hotbed of dissent against President Bashar Assad's regime.

A local activist who spoke on condition of anonymity for security reasons said the shelling was "relentless" throughout Thursday, and exploding shells killed people in their homes.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said 41 people died in all-day shelling of Douma Thursday, including three children and five members of a single family. At least two more were killed Friday morning.

"They (government troops) are trying to bring Douma under control, but they are being met by fierce resistance," said Rami Abdul-Rahman, the group's director. He said most of the dead were civilians.

The Local Coordination Committees network said 59 people were killed in Thursday's shelling of Damascus suburbs, most of them in Douma. The difference in tolls illustrated the difficulty of verifying information coming out of tightly controlled Syria, where journalists and human rights groups are either banned or severely restricted.

Amateur videos posted by activists online showed bloodied bodies lying on blankets in a room and others shrouded in white sheets and placed on stretchers. "A new massacre by Bashar Assad," cried a man holding a dead girl in a pink blouse, a large gash on her face.

The violence around the capital's suburbs mirrored fighting across many parts of Syria that killed dozens of other people Thursday, according to the groups.

Activists say more than 14,000 people have been killed since the uprising began in March 2011.

Much of the violence that has gripped Syria has been sanctioned by the government to crush dissent. But rebel fighters are launching increasingly deadly attacks on regime targets, and several huge suicide bombings this year suggest al-Qaida or other extremists are joining the battle. A bomb blast rocked central Damascus on Thursday near a busy market and the country's main justice complex, wounding at least three people and sending a cloud of black smoke into the air.

The latest carnage came as world powers show new urgency to resolve the crisis, which so far has resisted international efforts.

World powers will meet Saturday in Geneva for talks on Syria, but few observers expect a breakthrough. Syria has the protection of Russia, a veto-wielding member of the U.N. Security Council, and has so far been impervious to international pressure.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Moscow will not endorse a call on Assad to give up power.

"We are not supporting and will not support any external meddling," he said. "External players must not dictate ... to Syrians, but, first of all, must commit to influencing all the sides in Syria to stop the violence."

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said Thursday it was "very clear" that all the participants at the Geneva meeting ? including Russia ? are on board with a transition plan created by international envoy Kofi Annan. His plan calls for the formation of a national unity government that would oversee the drafting of a new constitution and elections.

Clinton told reporters that the invitations to Saturday's meeting in Geneva made clear that representatives "were coming on the basis of (Annan's) transition plan."

Lavrov said it was "obvious that a transitional period is needed to overcome the Syrian crisis," but insisted the major powers in Geneva must focus on convincing the opposition groups to soften their demands.

Diplomatic hopes have rested on Russia to agree to a plan that would end the Assad family dynasty, which has ruled Syria for more than four decades. Russia is Syria's most important ally, protector and supplier of arms.

There are few options besides keeping up diplomatic pressure, as an international military intervention is all but ruled out in the near future. Few countries are willing to get deeply involved in such an explosive conflict, and Russia and China have pledged to veto any international attempt to intervene militarily.

'Panenka' penalties find favor at Euro 2012

By PAUL LOGOTHETIS

AP Sports Writer

Associated Press Sports

updated 7:23 p.m. ET June 27, 2012

DONETSK, Ukraine (AP) -"Panenka" penalties seem to be in fashion at the European Championship.

Spain center back Sergio Ramos used the audacious soft chip on Wednesday to help the defending champions beat Portugal in their semifinal penalty shootout at Donbass Arena.

The technique is named after its pioneer, Antonin Panenka, who used it to win the 1976 European Championship for Czechoslovakia against West Germany in a penalty shootout.

Ramos' spot kick came just three days after Andrea Pirlo scored with a similar "Panenka" chip to the center of goal in Italy's quarterfinal shootout victory over England.

"They are very fashionable right now," Spain coach Vicente del Bosque said.

Ramos, whose previous penalty before Wednesday was a glaring miss for Real Madrid against Bayern Munich in the Champions League semifinals, will never forget it.

"I like that I was able to score from something that will be remembered," Ramos said. "It's the last thing that a goalkeeper would expect. You have to be confident to take it and in the run-up I saw the keeper nearly certain to dive one way, and fortune followed."

There have been other famous "Panenkas" through the years, like Zinedine Zidane's extravagant chip past Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon in the 2006 World Cup final, which France eventually lost on penalties.

Spain is the only team apart from West Germany to return to the final as holders, and Ramos' chip certainly put the world champions in control of the shootout.

With Spain 3-2 ahead after Ramos' penalty, Portugal defender Bruno Alves hit his penalty off the crossbar. Cesc Fabregas then converted his kick to give Spain a spot in the final in Kiev on Sunday against either Italy or Germany.

"I can't prove it, but these are things that can have an influence on the opponent," Portugal coach Paulo Bento said through a translator.

It was redemption for Ramos, whose miss in April left Bastian Schweinsteiger to win it 3-1 and put Bayern Munich into the Champions League final.

Ramos said that moment went through his mind beforehand and provided added motivation.

"When you can rebound from criticism, that's when you are strongest," Ramos said. "(The coach) trusted in me, he knew I was capable of scoring. He's been coaching for a lot years now and he knows I'm a little crazy."

Ramos has always been one for fashion - he cut his trademark mane before the start of the tournament. Even arriving for the post-match news conference to talk about his expressive goal was no different.

"Sorry I was late," Ramos said, "I wanted to clean up a bit."

Is it ethical to sell ?Hoarders? merchandise? | The Business Ethics Blog

? If we can?t trust universities, what hope can we have? | Home

By Lauren | June 27, 2012

Every once in a while, I?ll come across a product that strikes me as so utterly incongruous that I have to wonder what its producer could possibly have been thinking. Up until now, my favorite example has been magazines that primarily target women consumers. You know the sort - every issue features a new weight loss program, followed a few pages back by recipes for extravagant desserts or sugary cocktails guaranteed to blow the featured diet to smithereens. Seriously, were the departmental editors even at the same table when the issues were being laid out?

Yesterday, though, I stumbled across something that, by comparison, makes those magazines look like models of consistency. While poking around the A&E cable network?s website, I came to the page for ?Hoarders,? a show about people who compulsively stuff their homes with, well, stuff. At the top of the page I noticed a ?Shop? button and, bemused, clicked it. Up came no fewer than two dozen products associated with the show, including DVDs, books and t-shirts. It?s my understanding that hoarding is a serious mental and emotional illness, not just an interesting personal quirk. So why, oh why, would anyone want to feed the sickness by selling still more stuff associated with it?

It troubles me tremendously that cable television is becoming the modern equivalent of the 19th Century?s carnival sideshows. Flip through enough channels and you can find almost any kind of human misery packaged into a tidy one-hour reality show. It?s bad enough to turn hoarding into entertainment, still worse to use it as a platform for cheesy merchandising. Come on, A&E! Certainly you can do better.

Pest treatment should not be considered as an optional home improvement service; rather it should be taken as a serious compulsory work. If you are located at Canberra, getting the help of the Pest Control Canberra service provider regularly at least once in two months can ensure maximum protection to your home against any form of bugs. With regular activities, you will not only prevent dreaded pest creeping around your home, but will also ensure a health and clean home.

When a professional service provider is invited regularly, he can clearly identify the structural damage that can be caused by the pests well in advance in such a way that your building can be protected. Even though, most of the pests do not cause structural damage to the building, some of them can create problems in the electrical wiring of the home and some might cause some diseases to the incumbents of your home. Here are the reasons for considering the help of a pest control service provider regularly:

Early detection of problems created by pests: Most of the rodents and bugs reproduce rapidly once they have found a suitable place in your home thereby causing a snowball effect in the home. When seeking the help of a professional pest control firm, the firm will be sending a professional who can stop the pest infestations from growing and in addition to solving the existing pest problem; they can also identify the potential pest problems and can wade off the pests even before they enter into your home.

Prevention of fire accidents: Some of the gnawing mammals like hamsters, squirrels and rats, otherwise called as Rodents chew items for preventing their teeth from growing. If these rodents do not chew something, their teeth will grow to a length that would prevent them from eating. Therefore, these living organisms always look for some materials to chew and so there are chances that they damage the electrical settings in the home thereby exposing the home to electrical shocks resulting in fire accidents. Only a professional Pest Control Canberra service provider can protect your home and other property from rodents with the help of some techniques and they can also prevent the entry of rodents by using some equipment like door closes, steel wool, aluminum sheeting, bird wire, etc...

These professional firms can also offer other services like prevention of diseases and they can eliminate the risk of structural damage to the home caused by some types of pests.

Effective pest control services are available in the market that not only control the growth of pests but also eliminates their infestation to the core. Find the best Pest Control Service Providers, Termite control Canberra Experts, Rodent Pest Control service providers in and around Canberra at A1 Pest Control Canberra.

Excited hello!

Hello! Not sure what to say other than that. I'm excited to be forum roleplaying again; I run RPGs with some friends every once in a while, but it's been a long time since I've done any serious writing. I messed around a bit in a college course, experimenting for the lulz, but none of it was any good (but it was an easy 4.0 :D). I'm hoping to improve my writing while having fun roleplaying. I guess that's about it? Hello again!

EDIT: Oh, as a side note, if anyone knows any nitty-gritty, realistic RPs that need people and are willing to accept morons who can't write, count me in!
